How to block cookies?
By default cookies are blocked using settings in
Default cookies settings window. See What could I do to protect my privacy?
for information on recommended default cookie settings.
However, you may setup per-site cookie blocking
policy as well. The common scenario of cookie per-site blocking comprises two
steps:
- You detect that certain site sends or receives
undesirable cookies using Cookies window. That window shows
a list of cookies sent or received during opening of the current page.
- After you decided that you do not want certain
cookies, you instruct Ad Annihilator to block them. Select the cookies you
want to block in
Cookies window and
press "Block cookies of this type" button or right-click the cookie and
select "Block cookies of this type" in the context menu.
To learn about cookie types see
Privacy on the web. For recommendations on
cookie blocking policy see What could I do to protect my privacy?
An alternative way to block cookies from certain sites is from
Documents tab:
- Right-click the site or a document that came from the site from which you
want to block cookies
- Select "Block" and then "Cookies from this site" from the context menu.
Note that blocking of a cookie blocks not only that cookie but also all other
cookies of the selected types.
Advanced cookie blocking
For advanced cookie blocking Ad Annihilator have cookie filters - a powerful
tool to block cookies. See
Understanding cookie filters for more information.
Advanced users may combine both simple cookie blocking approach set out above
and direct cookie filters management to achieve desired cookie blocking policy.
If you press Shift key when blocking a cookie using one of the described
methods, Ad Annihilator opens Cookie filter properties window
before blocking so that you could adjust cookie filter settings. This way it is
possible to fine-tune the cookie filters according to your needs.
