Cache control tab
In this tab you can setup how documents are updated in the
cache:
browsing modes, secure protocol
control behavior and so on.
To open Cache control tab open
Ad Annihilator Options window and switch
to Cache control tab by clicking on its name.
Following options are available:
-
"Browsing mode" - here a current
browsing mode can be selected
like you can do this with "Browsing mode" button on
Ad Annihilator toolbar. To learn about
browsing modes see Understanding browsing modes;
-
"Do not cache secure documents (HTTPS)" - if
checked, documents and resources retrieved via secure protocol (HTTPS) are not
stored in Ad Annihilator cache.
Many Internet sites are set up to prevent unauthorized people from seeing the
information that is sent to or from those sites. These are called secure
sites. You can send information to a secure site with safety and confidence.
This information usually include personal information, credit card data and so
on. The pages retrieved from secure sites usually display such sensitive data
so their storing in cache is
not recommended as these pages could be retrieved from cache later without
Internet connection availability. We recommend having this option on so as
to not store such secure documents in the cache. However, the drawback of
having this option off is that you are not able to browse secure sites
offline. See
Understanding offline browsing
for more information on offline browsing;
-
"Store partially retrieved documents and resources" - when
this option is checked, Ad Annihilator stores partially retrieved documents
and resources in cache
so that they could be retrieved in partial form from cache or
their downloading be resumed later. Having this option on speeds up
browsing in case you return to partially retrieved page later as Ad
Annihilator is able to resume downloading from the point it was broken at and
not from the start. This is especially useful in downloading of large files
with Ad Annihilator as their retrieval could be easily resumed from the point
at which it was broken in case Internet connection is instable or was
interrupted manually. This feature reminds the tasks solved by download
manager software so you could use Ad Annihilator as a simple download manager
as well. See How to download large
files? for more information.
The drawback of having this option on is littering of your
cache
with unnecessary partially retrieved files and wasting disk space with them in
case you need only fully retrieved documents and resource and don't need
downloading of large files.
Note that not every site supports resuming of resource downloading, and Ad
Annihilator and download manager software can do nothing about this.
