Banner stopper tab
In this tab you can setup how banners and other page resources are
blocked. Here only global banner blocking options can be setup. To fine-tune
banner blocking you should use banner
filters that are edited in Banner filters tab.
To open Banner stopper tab open
Ad Annihilator Options window and switch
to Banner stopper tab by clicking on its name.
Following options are available:
-
"Enable banner stopper (block banners as specified by
filters)" - unchecking this option turns off banner blocking. If it is
unchecked, no banner is blocked at all, banner filters and other options on
this tab have no effect, and Ad Annihilator does not interfere with how
banners and other page resources are downloaded and shown. If it is checked,
all other banner blocking options and banner filters work as usual;
-
"Block third-party resources" - if checked,
third-party resources are blocked. See
What can I do to block
advertisements?
and Understanding banner filters
for information on third-party resources blocking. Note that this option is
not global but is taken from and affects the current project settings. If you open
another project, this option will reflect its setting;
-
"Refresh affected banners on the page after filter change" -
if checked, after each change in banner filters in
Banner
filters tab, Ad Annihilator synchronizes the changes with the document
opened in the current browser. Check this option if you want to see the
results of banner blocking and unblocking immediately on the current page. If
it is unchecked, banner changes will be reflected only at the next document
visit. Note that this option does not affect immediate blocking and unblocking
of those banners that you block or unblock specifically as detailed in
How to block banners? and
How to unblock banners? The drawback of
turning of this feature on is slightly slowed operation as refreshing of page
resources takes some time though on fast computers this is not a problem;
-
"Show disabling filter instead of banner" - when checked,
each time Ad Annihilator blocks a banner, it returns a message telling which
filter blocked the banner:

This is useful for detecting which filter blocks a banner. Note this option
cannot be turned off if you have not registered Ad Annihilator. See
Registration for information on Ad Annihilator registration.
-
"Show "Resource block/unblock dialog" when I block/unblock
a banner" - when checked, Resource block
and Resource unblock windows are shown
only if you press Shift key when blocking or unblocking a banner; otherwise, they are shown each time you block or
unblock a banner;
-
"Replace banners with color" - if checked, Ad Annihilator
replaces all picture banners with colored or transparent areas. The color can
be selected from the list to the right of this option. "Transparent" means the
background color of the surrounding webpage; using transparent color usually
makes banners dissolve on the page altogether. On the other hand, colored
areas help to mark banner space prominently to inform the user that a banner
was on the webpage. If checkbox is cleared, blocked banners are shown with
standard Internet Explorer red cross icons such as on the following picture:

Note that only picture banners can be replaced with colored or transparent
areas, i.e. banners that can be efficiently detected as pictures;
-
"Play sound when a
banner is shot" - allows you to setup a
shot sound that is played each time a banner is shot or restored with
banner sniper. This may serve you as an
audible indicator and it is fun to hunt for banners and hear a shot sound each
time a banner is killed.
-
"..." - click this button to browse for a sound file on
the disk. Selected file will be played each time a banner is shot;
-
"Play" - click this button to test and hear the
selected sound right now;
-
"Clear" - clears selected sound and disables audible
notification feature;
-
"Use default" - switches to default sound built-in in Ad Annihilator.
-
"Open banner filters" button opens
Banner
filters tab where you could setup
banner filters. Banner filters tab opening requires that
Ad Annihilator Options
window be closed. You will be prompted to save your changes before
closing. See Understanding banner
filters to learn more about
banner filters.
