Advanced tab
In this tab you can setup Ad Annihilator advanced options that are
useful in certain cases.
To open Advanced tab open Ad Annihilator Options window and switch
to Advanced tab by clicking on its name.
Following options are available
in both simple and advanced modes
:
-
"Disable automatic updates" - when checked, Ad Annihilator
will not notify a user if a new version of Ad Annihilator becomes available. If
this option is cleared, as soon as a new version of Ad Annihilator is released,
the user will see a dialog box allowing to download and install a new version
of Ad Annihilator; -
"Load Ad Annihilator in Windows Explorer" - when this
option is on, Ad Annihilator works not only in Internet Explorer but in
Windows Explorer as well. Windows Explorer can be launched using
Accessories/Windows Explorer link in Windows start menu. Check this option if
you browse the web using Windows Explorer and want Ad Annihilator to work there.
All other
options are available in advanced mode only:
-
"Hide progress window automatically" - when checked,
Progress window is shown automatically when documents and
resources are being downloaded and hidden when downloading process is
completed. It is recommended to have this option on when you want to track how
documents are being downloaded but do not want the
Progress
window to occupy extra window space when no downloading is in progress.
Otherwise, you would have to turn Progress window on before
or during downloading and off after a page has been downloaded manually.
Note that to make this mode function properly, you should close
Progress window
first or have its Progress tab or
Resources
tab visible. If
Progress window
is opened and another tab is active there, the window is not hidden
automatically when downloading process ends. To
turn Progress window on and off manually, use "Progress and
Statistics" button on Ad Annihilator
toolbar;
-
"Display a notification about every script error" - when
checked, Internet Explorer displays a notification each time
it encounters an error on
a page. This may bother users, so it is recommended to turn this option off.
When you enable banner blocking, sites may
encounter errors due to missing banners that usually do not affect site
operation; you may have this option on and enjoy
banner blocking functionality without
distracting error messages. However, if you are a web developer, you may need
to turn this option off to see error messages for site debugging purposes.
This option corresponds to "Display a notification about every script error"
and "Disable script debugging" Internet Explorer advanced options.
This option requires Internet Explorer or computer restart in order to make
its setting effective;
-
"Change cursor to hour glass when mouse pointer hovers over
links that were not retrieved" - if checked, this makes Ad Annihilator to
prompt you if a link on the page is retrieved or not. To experience this
prompt, simply place the mouse over the link. If the mouse pointer changes as
follows:

it means that you have not visited this link yet and it is not in the cache.
When you click on this link, browser will initiate network request if the page
is expired and retrieve that page
from the Internet. If you wait a little, a temporary window "Link is not
retrieved" appears as well as shown above to indicate the same thing.
If you do not see such mouse pointer and temporary window, it means that that
page is already in the cache. If you click this link and page is not
expired or
"Download from cache if available" or
"Download from cache only (offline mode)" browsing mode is active, this
link is retrieved from the cache without generating network traffic.
This feature offers you a useful hint on which links you already visited and
which you did not to make your browsing more efficient;
-
"Optimize filters" - when this option is on, Ad Annihilator
tries to optimize banner and popup filters added via Resource
block, Resource unblock,
Popup block or
Popup unblock windows. Optimization means
removal of excessive filters and keeping the number of filters as little as
possible. If you manipulate filters directly, it is recommended to turn this
option off to avoid unexpected results;
-
"Show project name in the browser title bar" - when checked,
it allows showing currently opened project name in the browser title bar so
that you can learn which project is active by a quick look at the browser
window;
-
"Max connections per server" - the number of concurrent
connections to a single web server. Increasing this value may speed up the download process. Internet Standards prohibit setting this value
higher than 2 connections per server. Setting this setting to a higher value
may speed up the download but not all servers allow too many concurrent
connections from a single computer. This option requires Internet Explorer or
computer restart in order to make its setting effective.
